Happy Oktoberfest!

by Patak Online

Oktoberfest season has arrived! Known as "Wiesn" by locals in Munich, Germany, Oktoberfest is the world's largest and most famous beer festival. Its history dates back to 1810 when locals gathered to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I of Bavaria) to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich celebrated with horse races, food, and beer.

Oktoberfest morphed over the decades into a massive celebration of Bavarian food and culture celebrated in Germany and worldwide. It typically begins in late September and runs through the first weekend in October (though it often extends beyond that). It is a time for people from all walks of life to come together, enjoy good food and drink, and revel in a festive Bavarian atmosphere.

If you'd like to attend an Oktoberfest festival, simply check Google for nearby venues. You'll be amazed at the variety of events. Atlanta hosts festivals large and small, and Helen, Georgia, is a top-rated destination for Oktoberfest. Located around 90 miles northeast of Atlanta, Helen is a German-Alpine-inspired mountain town with chalet storefronts, cobblestone streets, and many German-themed restaurants and shops.
